About The Wild Kind

Built by a mom who
chose a wilder life.

This isn't a travel company. It's a community built from lived experience - one that believes the world is a better teacher than any classroom.

Gentri and Xion
Gentri + Xion - the reason all of this exists

Hi, I'm Gentri. And this is Xion.

I've spent the last several years building a life that doesn't fit neatly into any category - homeschooling my son, running businesses across two countries, and slowly realizing that the most meaningful education Xion gets happens when we're out in the world, not sitting still in it.

I'm a creative director and bilingual entrepreneur with roots in North Carolina and Puerto Escondido, Mexico. I've built brands, run multiple hospitality concepts, styled fashion shoots, and learned more from a single afternoon in a Mexican market than from a month of conventional curriculum.

The Wild Kind was born from a simple belief: that families who travel together, learn together, and show up for each other across the world build something most people spend their whole lives searching for. Chosen family. Real community. A life that looks like freedom because it actually is.

I built this for Xion. And for every family that felt the same pull - toward something wilder, more connected, more real.

How It Works

Simple by design.
Extraordinary by experience.

We handle the curation and community. You handle getting there. Here's exactly what that looks like.

01

Apply to join a cohort

Fill out our short application so we can get to know your family. We keep cohorts intentionally small - 6 to 10 families - so we review every application personally. Once accepted, you'll receive cohort details, dates, and pricing.

02

Book your travel independently

We share the destination, dates, and a curated neighborhood to stay in. You book your own flights and accommodation - this keeps your costs flexible and lets families stay in places that fit their budget and style. We'll send recommendations.

03

Arrive and dive in

From day one, you're part of something. We kick off with a welcome gathering, share the week's rhythm, and let the magic of being in a new place with like-minded families do the rest. There's structure where it helps and freedom where it matters.

04

Live, learn, and explore together

Each cohort runs 3-4 weeks. Days are a mix of guided group experiences - cooking classes, nature excursions, cultural workshops, language lessons - and free time for families to explore independently or together. Kids learn by doing. Parents breathe.

05

Stay connected long after

The trip ends. The community doesn't. Every Wild Kind family joins our ongoing network - a place to plan future cohorts, share resources, and maintain the friendships your family built on the road.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the program

What exactly is a Wild Kind cohort? +

A cohort is a small group of 6-10 families who travel to the same destination at the same time and share a curated experience together. You book your own travel and accommodation, we handle all the programming, community, and curation. It's independent travel with the warmth of a community built in.

How long does each cohort run? +

Each cohort runs 3-4 weeks. You're welcome to arrive early or stay late - many families extend their trip and explore independently before or after the cohort dates.

How many cohorts run per year? +

We run 3-4 cohorts per year across different global locations. Our first cohort launches in Tamarindo, Costa Rica in 2027. Future locations are chosen based on community interest and our own exploration.

Families and kids

What ages are welcome? +

All ages. Seriously. We design programming that works across age groups - toddlers through teenagers all find their place. We believe mixed-age community is actually one of the most valuable things for kids.

Do we need to homeschool to join? +

Not at all. We welcome families from every educational background - homeschoolers, unschoolers, families on sabbatical from traditional school, and families taking extended trips during school holidays. The learning we do together enriches any educational approach.

What if my kids are really different ages? +

Perfect, actually. Our programming is designed to be flexible and multi-age. Older kids often become natural leaders and mentors. Younger kids thrive with the stimulation of older peers. We've found that mixed-age cohorts create the richest dynamics.

Cost and logistics

How much does a cohort cost? +

We offer two tiers. Our program fee covers all Wild Kind programming, activities, workshops, and community access for your entire family - you book your own accommodation independently. We also offer a bundled option that includes modest, curated accommodation for families who prefer an all-in experience. Full pricing is shared with accepted applicants. Founding families lock in their chosen tier rate for all future cohorts.

What do we pay for separately? +

Flights, accommodation, daily meals, and local transport are all booked independently by each family. This keeps you in control of your budget and lets families choose accommodation that suits their style. We send detailed recommendations for every destination.

Do you offer discounts for returning families? +

Yes. Founding families who join our first cohort lock in their rate forever - that's their reward for believing in us early. For everyone else, returning families receive 10% off their second cohort and 15% off their third trip and beyond. The longer you're part of The Wild Kind, the more you save.

Safety and practicalities

How do you choose destinations? +

Every location is chosen for three things: cultural richness, family safety, and genuine wonder. We research infrastructure, healthcare access, family-friendliness, and the quality of the experience before committing to any destination.

Do we need travel insurance? +

Yes - we require all families to carry comprehensive travel insurance including medical coverage for the full duration of the cohort. We'll share our recommended providers when you're accepted.

What if something goes wrong during the trip? +

We're there with you. The Wild Kind founder is present at every cohort. We have local contacts, emergency protocols, and a genuine commitment to every family's wellbeing. You're not on your own - you're part of a community that looks out for each other.

Where We Go
